(The tables are Microsoft Excel. I happen to be a Microsoft fan but I'm also willing to save a few bucks when possible. I have been using OpenOffice (tm) in place of Microsoft Office for quite a while now. Sun Microsystems and the OpenOffice consortium have done a fantastic job bringing a free open source product to the public. If you don't have Excel, Word, etc, I invite you to click on the title to this post and take a look at OpenOffice.)
Are you one of the many working people in Colorado (or anywhere - email me and I'll find the tables for your state) who finds themselves with more month than paycheck? I've been there and I think it sucks!
A few years ago, I'd have sat in my comfy office and told anyone who complained to go find a job that pays better but I've now walked a few miles in "working shoes" and I applaud the men and women who get up and go to those jobs everyday. It's a hard life; you work at jobs that are vital but offer little pay, no recognition and deplorable working conditions. Jobs filled by hard working American Citizens.
I'm trying to collect as much relevant information as I can and link it all from this blog. I understand that when you're either at work or sleeping so you can get up and go to work, it doesn't leave a lot of time to do much of anything else.
How much is enough?
One measure are the Self Sufficiency Standards published for every state/city. The wage tables measure the BASIC needs of a household unit and tell you that the tables don't allow for frivolities such as taking your wife out to dinner on your anniversary or taking you kid(s) to Micky D's as a treat. Please take the time to compare your job and family unit to the tables.
